Rides for Explorers – Sunday 16th January

Meet Twickenham Riverside by Eel Pie Bridge , 10.00 am.

Our once traditional post-turkey jaunt now in covid mode. On/off road quiet and scenic route to Box Hill then a steady climb to the viewpoint and open air lunch at NT snackery at the top  Enjoy  a switchback descent taking us most of the way home. About 40 miles in total. Better bring lights but expect to get back about 3pm.

Four of us met up in rather grey conditions. The route over Ashstead Common was muddier than would be ideal. The all-weather path perhaps needs renewing. The sun started to break through as we went through the Mole Gap and the ride up Box Hill was marred only by the number of cars.

A quick coffee and bite at the snackery, and a gasp at the viewpoint and we were off down past Headly and Epsom Common back to Tolworth where a final Hill took us to the de-luxe cycle track into Kingston and home. One puncture on route.

Route (May be modified if we get much more rain. )
