Borough Co-ordinator’s update

  1. We attended ATAG at the beginning of the month, and got quite a lot of info from the council, and a useful discussion on the Transport Strategy.
  2. Much of it may well be covered in Tuesday’s TAQ meeting:  https://cabnet.richmond.gov.uk/mgChooseDocPack.aspx?ID=500000530
  3. I made these notes at ATAG:
    • Intro to the A/T strategy
    • TFL forecast is cars per household will fall slightly, but overall car journeys won’t change.
    • 142-150k public transport journeys 2019-2041 forces
    • Changes most wanted: trains, buses and cycling are top. Also Pavement conditions were above congestion.
    • People with disabilities asked primarily for more safe and accessible spaces
    • Mary making good point of cost of active travel for disabled people, and how hard this is to access.
    • Alex “On the search for something that will convince people” … Need something game-changing for us to make the case
    • Current programme
    • Transport committee will have lots of this (not in priority order)
    •   Hampton Court Road progressing – with TfL at the moment, including network assessment. Should then get more money, and engage with Royal Palaces. Consult around January time
    •  Manor Road / Ferry Road – at Tfl technical approval. Looking to significant simplification of junction
    •   Looking to link to Broom Road.
    •   A310 Cross Deep. Lobbying for more funding for this. Some small changes also planned.
    •   June July. St James, Hampton House, St Mary’s. Next couple of months.
    •   Sheen Mount also to progress
    •   Looking at cycling network map. Will link to £16.5m bid sent in last year
    •   Bus partnership bid? 18 days’ time, in partnership with 2 other SW London boroughs. Includes traffic reduction in Richmond town centre. Up to £3.5m
    •  Kingston Bridge roundabout – successfully bid. Will be £5m at the moment. Will need to engage with Kingston on this.(Because they own one arm.)
    •  TfL has gone back to lots more modelling and network analysis, which is making schemes harder.
    •  We bid for 40 projects in LIP, 16 had modelling questions
    •  London Road – 2 zebras at end of June.
  4. Bike parking happening neighbourhood by neighbourhood
    • locations coming up in next bike hangar consultation
