Rides for Explorers – 13th January – Box Hill

Meet Twickenham Riverside – by Eel Pie bridge 10.30.

Our traditional post-turkey jaunt. On/off road quiet route to Box Hill. Lunch in the Bikers Caff at the bottom (as the pub at the top is now a trendy wine-bar). Then a steady climb to the viewpoint and a switchback descent taking us most of the way home. About 35 miles in total. Better bring lights.

Six of us turned up on a chilly Twickenham Riverside but one couple dropped out with recurrent puncture. The remaining four had a bit of a struggle with mud in Horton Country Park so by-passed Ashstead Common visiting Epsom Wells  ( chemical question : Why is Epsom different from Paris ) The NT cafe at the top of Box Hill provided a variety of food and the view across the sunlit Weald was impressive.

Despite the brightness the wind was chilly so we made good speed home getting back by 15.15
